Hidalgo County is the southernmost county of the U.S. state of New Mexico. This county abuts the Mexican border. ==Geography== According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.3%) is water. The southern part of the county, the part bounded on the east and south by Mexico, is known as the Boot Heel.
